It’s that time again! The county has mailed out the 2021 assessments of home values upon which your taxes are based. Most counties have a deadline of the 4th Monday in June (June 27th) to contest value, so remember to look before then. Values have been rising for many years, but 2021 saw values increase by never before seen percentages.
It’s an odd time, because we are seeing high assessments for 2021, while experiencing the market shifting in the other direction – adding confusion and a “What in the world is going on in this market?” feel. As the eternal optimist you know me to be, I am hoping we will see a reprieve next year in our assessment notices, but that didn’t help much when I fell out of my chair, yet again, opening my assessment notice this year.
Here are links to several county websites with instructions on how to submit an appeal if you disagree with the assessed value:

Boise County
(Idaho City, Horseshoe Bend, Garden Valley) – call Boise County and they will send you a form 208-392-4415. Homeowners have 3 weeks after receiving the assessment notice. Typically they send the notices the first Monday in June, but due to issues with their server they are delayed in sending them out.

Elmore County
Call the assessor’s office 208-587-2130, x507 to get an application. Applications are due by 6/27 and you will be given a hearing date to disagree with the valuation, you may also bring documentation. Or you can talk to an appraiser in their office and they can do a work up on your property before setting a hearing date, or both.
